Discover If You Need To Replace Your Garage Door

by Stacey Howell

The need for a garage door replacement is not likely something that's going to come up often. But when it does, you want to make sure that you will recognize the need for it. If your garage door hasn't been replaced in many years, or it was already there when you moved in, it might be time for a new garage door installation. To help you better understand whether it's time, you should review the following signs:

The Door Doesn't Touch The Ground

When the garage door is in the closed position, it should touch the ground. There should not be any gaps between the ground and the bottom of the garage door. If there is a gap, you are at risk of critters getting into your garage and making a mess. There's also an increased chance that someone could break into your garage by using leverage to pry the door open a little more so they can get in. Call for an estimate on a new garage door installation if this is a problem you are experiencing.

There Are Dents Or Broken Panels

Your garage door is probably in need of replacement if there are a lot of dents all over it. Those dents are signs that the door has seen its fair share of accidents. The garage door absolutely needs to be replaced if there are broken or missing panels. The more damage there is to the garage door, the easier it will be for someone to break into the garage. Also, you'll find that it is much harder to keep the inside of the garage at the temperature you like. After all, there's nothing stopping the airflow through the garage door.

The Door Isn't A Good Insulator

You want to be able to control the temperature inside of the garage. You can keep it cool in the summer with air conditioning and warm in the winter with a heater. However, if the garage door is really old, there's a good chance that it doesn't have a good rating as an insulator. For that reason alone, even if the door still looks okay, it might be worth it to have a new garage door installed. You just have to make sure that it is a highly rated energy-efficient garage door.
