Advice For Securing Your Home

by Stacey Howell

When it comes to protecting your home from burglars, there are a few things you can do that will help you to keep it safer. Taking the appropriate steps can provide you with a home that you and your family feel more secure with, both while you are in the house and when you leave it. Read this article for advice on better securing your house.

Put up a fence: A fence around your property will help to keep burglars from thinking your home is an easy target. However, in order for the fence to really be effective you will want to make sure it stays locked and that you use a good quality lock that can't be easily broken. The fence should be tall enough to be a real deterrent.

Consider reflective tint for your windows

Unless you plan on keeping the blinds in your home shut at all times you may want to consider having a reflective tint put on the windows. This tint will make it extremely difficult for someone to see into your house. In fact, it will be impossible for them to see in from the street. An added bonus to putting tint on your windows is it will help with your cooling cost in the summer as well.

Have a security alarm installed

Burglars tend to shy away from homes with security alarms because they know alarms significantly increase their chances of being caught. You should consider an alarm with window and door sensors, motion detectors and cameras.

Home security alarms will give you optimal coverage and make it easier for a burglar to be apprehended and identified if they do decide to attempt to burglarize your home.

Secure your garage: Many criminals will try to get in garages since most of them are on the side of the house away from the bedrooms, where they can move around without being heard or seen as easily. All the windows to your garage should have blinds that are kept shut.

You should secure the emergency latch of your automatic garage door opener so it can't be opened with a wire form the outside. You can do this by putting a zip tie through the hole in the emergency lever and securing it to the track located above. Your garage door should be replaced by a professional, like Mid-South Door Co or others, if it is old and weak.

Making these changes around your home will help you to create a safer and more secure home environment for you and your family.
